Some bathrooms get updated. This one got completely reimagined. Our team recently wrapped up a master bathroom remodel in Montgomery County, PA — in Gilbertsville, on the Pottstown side of the county — that turned a dated, builder-grade space into a bright, spa-like retreat. The result: a freestanding soaking tub beneath an arched window, a frameless glass walk-in shower, and a custom white oak double vanity.
Every element in this room was selected in our Limerick showroom and installed by our own in-house craftsmen. Here’s a closer look at what went into it.
The Centerpiece: A Freestanding Tub Framed by Light
The first thing you notice in this bathroom is the light. A wall of windows crowned by an arched transom floods the room with sun, and we positioned the freestanding soaking tub directly beneath it to take full advantage. A deck-mounted Kohler tub filler in matte black — with a matching hand shower — gives the tub a clean, sculptural look without a single fixture cluttering the wall.
The entire bathroom floor is Qualis Concord Umber 12×24 matte porcelain laid in a herringbone pattern with crisp white grout. Herringbone at this scale is a detail most homeowners have only seen in design magazines. It adds movement and elegance to the floor while the matte finish keeps it practical, with better traction than polished tile in a room that sees water every day. A Walk-In Shower Built Around the Details
The walk-in shower is where this project’s custom craftsmanship really shows. The walls are Merola Belvadere 12×24 matte tile set in a running bond pattern on one-third offset — a subtle, staggered layout that reads clean and modern while minimizing grout lines. Frameless glass panels and a half wall keep the whole space open and airy.
For the shower floor and the custom double-shelf niche, we used Merola elongated hex mosaic in mixed shades of gray and white with shadow grout. The mosaic serves two purposes: on the floor, the smaller tiles and additional grout lines provide natural slip resistance, and in the niche, the pattern becomes a built-in focal point. The niche shelves, threshold, sill, and half-wall caps are all finished in Snow quartz for a bright, seamless edge that will never need repainting or resealing.
Matte black Kohler fixtures — including a multi-function handheld shower head — tie the shower back to the tub filler and vanity hardware for a cohesive look across the entire room.
A Double Vanity That Anchors the Room
The vanity is a Fabuwood piece in the Desert Oak finish — a warm, light white oak tone that brings natural texture into an otherwise crisp white and gray palette. It’s topped with Calacatta Laza quartz, which delivers the dramatic veining of natural marble with none of the sealing, etching, or staining worries. Rectangle undermount sinks and widespread matte black faucets keep the lines clean, and Jeffrey Alexander Sullivan pulls and knobs finish the cabinetry with just enough contrast.
Above, black-framed mirrors and wood-accented vanity lights repeat the room’s two key materials — black metal and light oak — so nothing feels accidental.
The Detail Everyone Asks About: Ceiling Beams to Match
Look up and you’ll see the finishing touch: the vaulted ceiling is accented with wood beams custom-finished to match the Desert Oak vanity. It’s a small decision that makes a big difference, drawing the eye upward and making the room feel even taller and more custom. Trim throughout was painted in Greek Villa semi-gloss for a soft, warm white that complements the oak rather than fighting it.
